I'm actually a patient that's been in this hospital for two days now. I've defended this hospital to naysayers over the years and been admitted several times and have always had a pleasant experience with the nursing staff and doctors and everyone right down to the janitorial staff.
Three stays in a six week period, each lasting at least 10 days, and each for the exact same issue. The floor doctors as well as the specialists contracted to them care more about simply getting patients discharged, regardless of whether they are well enough to actually be safely discharged. Finally was transferred to a REAL hospital in UVA where they fixed in 6 days what MWH had been toying around with over the 6 weeks I was with them. Avoid at all costs.
I hope this gets worked out. BTW: They have the best nursing staff here of anywhere I've been. Angels.
I've been admitted this time for an issue that's causing me extreme abdominal pain. It's pretty nasty stuff. Apparently, due to the opioid crisis going on in the good old USA the pain medications given to legitimate patients in need are getting pretty watered down.
Also, while I was present in my second stint, I saw from the hallway window while doing laps on the floor I was placed in, a life-flight helicopter come in to land on top of the Emergency Room Parking Garage. They then had to wait a few minutes for staff from the hospital to meet them, albeit without a stretcher, so the staff had to go back and get a stretcher. By the time they returned with the stretcher, the crew and patient had been waiting there for 12 minutes.
I went to the emergency room at this hospital due to sudden severe leg pain on the last day of my vacation. I was triaged by a tech, nurse, and physician's assistant within minutes and received a prompt ultrasound and blood work. The emergency room was crowded and there was a long wait. While we were waiting a staff member came out at intervals to check my vital signs. The staff members were all friendly, kind, and pleasant to me and to the other people waiting, even some who were angry or upset. They were concerned about the length of the wait but said several complicated trauma cases had come in by ambulance. When I was called in to see the doctor he and the nurses were knowledgeable about my condition. I was given a complete discharge summary as I left. All in all, a positive though very prolonged experience.
I had a very pleasant experience here & am surprised by the bad reviews. I was triaged & brought back to a room quickly. I was then seen by the PA soon after that. Everyone from the front desk staff to the triage nurse was very kind and helpful. Like any ER, your wait time is all about the volume of patients on any given day and how critical your injury is. I was very happy with my care & would not hesitate to return.
Other than a 60 minute wait (I went during shift change) everything went like clock. Me. Wexler (PA), Lorraine, Briana and another nurse (I didn’t catch her name) were ABSOLUTELY the kindest professionals I’ve ever met at MWH! For the first time ever I didn’t feel like I was an inconvenience! Your the best!
I couldn't say enough good things about it.
