Overall Evaluation - The prep-work is clearly superior. The team did patch all of the pop holes and other cracks in the finish, sand them smooth before proceeding. This might have slowed the job down more than expected. The team was inexperienced in using the specific product that the estimator selected and therefore there are wall coverage issues. Most of the issues have been resolved however, the company instructed the team leader to stop putting a third coat on the walls since they only estimated 2 coats (contract indicated 2 coats). (We recommend that the contract be modified to ensure that the walls are painted properly and not just state 2 coats.) This has left some walls with a less than acceptable finish. They are currently being called back to redo 2 walls. The team was supposed to be 5 people for 5 days however, some team members showed up late and there were only 4 people on the last two project days.
Value - Our assessment of the value is we probably overpaid for the service by about 20% but there are few choices to be had in this area. Prior companies did a less than stellar job and this company is an improvement abet not sufficiently so. Again, the prep work is clearly superior and could account for the price difference.
Product - The product is new to this company and while we are reasonably pleased with the outcome we would probably have chosen a different product had we known this before hand. Two coats of low VOC paint are insufficient in volume to cover the builders paint job. It's too early to determine the product's ongoing durability.
Quality - This company is supposedly about quality and customer satisfaction however, when it came down to doing the extra coat in some areas and hurrying to finish up the job at the end, quality was sacrificed. Quality = customer satisfaction and that is why we rated this job at 3 stars.
Service - The number of staff assigned and their individual arrival and departure times varied from day to day. This caused the job to stretch out and a hurry up situation at the end. Thus areas completed at the end of the job are of lesser quality than those done at the beginning of the job. The team started new areas before completing areas already started. This resulted in most rooms being unusable for the entire work period. The floors and furniture were not always protected and thus we had some minor damage which we are in the process of getting repaired. There is a disagreement over whether the team dented the tops of the washer and dryer. We chose to not make this an issue since we are in the process of replacing these units.
Job Description - 2,300 square foot single story interior ceilings, walls and trim - flat ceiling paint, eggshell wall paint and semi gloss trim - two wall colors were used - premium paint was used. Schedule for 5 working days, 5 person team.
